For those unfamiliar, BERDE (Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence) is a certification program created by the Philippine Green Building Council. It evaluates projects on their environmental impact, going beyond just meeting basic green standards. With guidance from the World Green Building Council, BERDE serves as the Philippines' local benchmark for sustainability.

Aboitiz InfraCapital took the lead in green development by earning the first-ever BERDE District Certification for its LIMA Estate, which proudly received the top 5-star rating. This groundbreaking achievement showcased the company's commitment to creating industrial spaces that are not only innovative but also environmentally responsible.

Mactan Economic Zone 2 (MEZ2) Estate, Lapu-Lapu City’s thriving hub of business and innovation, spanning 63 hectares, offers a sustainable and integrated environment that supports business growth and community development.

Fast forward to today, and Aboitiz InfraCapital has now secured the 5-Star BERDE District Certification for all of its Economic Estates. At the recent Cebu Executives Forum, both MEZ2 Estate and West Cebu Estate were also awarded this recognition, becoming the first 5-Star BERDE Certified Developments in Visayas and Mindanao. These estates set the bar for green building practices, earning global recognition for their eco-friendly features and sustainable design.

Rafael Fernandez de Mesa, the Head of Aboitiz InfraCapital Economic Estates, shared his pride in the achievement: "As we achieve 5-Star BERDE District Certification across our entire portfolio, we celebrate a collective accomplishment made possible by the support of our valued partners and stakeholders. Together, we are setting a new standard for industrial estates, attracting investment, and building a greener future for the Philippines."

West Cebu Estate, The Shipbuilding Capital of the Philippines, spans 540-hectares offers world-class facilities and a strategic location for global manufacturers

This milestone is especially meaningful in today’s business climate, where sustainability is more than just a buzzword. Investors, partners, and businesses are increasingly looking to align with eco-conscious developments. As the first industrial developer in the Philippines to earn this 5-star certification for its entire portfolio, Aboitiz InfraCapital is not only leading the charge but also proving that responsible development can go hand-in-hand with economic growth. By prioritizing sustainability, they’re creating real value for everyone involved while positioning the Philippines as a hotspot for future-focused, sustainable investments.

It’s clear: Aboitiz InfraCapital is setting the standard for green industrial estates, and other developers should take note.
