PRESS RELEASE: Plantation Prime’s genesis is rooted in the Philippine diaspora.

“We conceptualized the brand in 2018, aiming originally for the Filipinos who live overseas,” shares Brian Noel, Managing Director of the young brand. “With my fellow incorporators and I having lived abroad, we know firsthand the lack of options for Filipino comfort food. Especially in the context of  those who live fast-paced lives and have little time to prepare meals.”

In 2020, the company invested in machinery and expertise after enlisting the help of various government agencies. “As soon as our Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permits were released, we began canning our flagship product, the Beef Shank Kare-Kare (beef stew in peanut sauce).” The lockdowns in the pandemic had people confined to their homes and searching social media for the latest “quarantine eats” to try, Plantation Prime’s premium offering fit the bill and soon created a low-key buzz with its unique product choice.

“We really set out to can Filipino classics that are difficult to prepare or take a long time to do so, especially for the working consumer who may not have the time to slow cook beef for kare-kare for the four hours it normally requires,” explains Noel. Disrupting the present inventory of canned goods in the market played significantly into the carefully curated and tentatively expanding product line, but the recipes were already there for the taking in an existing menu. “With their permission, we used recipes from a 5 star luxury resort’s signature restaurant, so a can of Plantation Prime offers 5-star dining in the convenience of your own homes.”

The boutique manufacturing plant produces a limited number of cans per day, presently only 300 units. Manned by a tight, 5-man crew in their 200 sqm facility on Mactan Island, Cebu, the operations retain an artisanal quality despite the world-class machinery that ensures product safety and longevity, making each can last up to 2 years with proper storage.

And on every can, Noel points out with pride, their Made in Cebu ethos: “We mean what we say, we even have it printed on the label: Serving the Global Filipino from the Visayan archipelago.”
