PLDT Home and Google Philippines Lead the Charge in AI-Driven Digital Mastery for Filipino Mompreneurs

For years, the conversation around empowering women has centered on one word: access. We talked about access to education, the internet, and the global marketplace. But as the world changes, so does the definition of being "connected."

Today, a new digital divide is emerging. It isn't just about who has an internet connection. It's about who knows how to use and maximize the digital tools at their disposal. As artificial intelligence (AI) begins to reshape how we work, learn, and grow our businesses, the goal is shifting.

It’s no longer enough just to be online. To truly thrive, women need the skills and confidence to lead in an AI-driven world.

    Moving Beyond the Connection

Through a collaboration between PLDT Home’s Madiskarte Moms PH (MMPH) and Google, the second Gemini Academy for mompreneurs was recently held to bridge this gap. Building on last year’s introduction to AI, the program focused on practical use, showing participants how AI can support their businesses and help them stay competitive in a fast-changing digital landscape. It also encouraged women to become #maAIdiskartemom, embracing innovation by using AI tools.

While "AI" can sometimes sound like a complicated term reserved for tech experts, Gemini Academy is proving that these tools are actually for everyone. Most especially for mompreneurs who are balancing their family life and work, while looking to reach more customers. AI is a partner that helps get things done faster and more creatively.

“AI is no longer limited to large enterprises. It is for everyone, and we need to embrace it. Today, it goes beyond being a tool. It becomes a partner that helps you write product descriptions in seconds, respond to customers with confidence, create content, and support your day-to-day operations,” said Cheryl Maxine Loyola, AVP and Head of Public Relations and Brand Advocacy at PLDT Home.

“When you put tools like Gemini in the hands of women who are already 'madiskarte', you do more than improve productivity. You unlock potential.”

    Tools for the Modern Filipina

The Gemini Academy has always focused on making technology approachable. It also recognizes the efforts of mompreneurs who have leveraged AI to grow their businesses, such as mom ambassadors Princess Alvarez of ISLA Everything Accessories and Jenielyn Sicabalo-Nieva of MP Nieva's Flower Shop.

Princess successfully built a custom pricing calculator and business tracker from scratch with the help of Gemini. This gives her a real-time view of her business profitability without a technical background. Jenielyn also utilized Gemini to do deep research into bouquet trends and innovative "add-on" gift ideas. This keeps her up to date on the latest market trends, so she can consistently offer fresh gift ideas to customers.

These stories reflect a broader shift in how Filipino women are redefining entrepreneurship in the digital age.

“What we’re seeing today is a new kind of ‘diskarte’—one where Filipina entrepreneurs are not just adopting technology, but using AI to lead, innovate, and scale their businesses with confidence, and ultimately lead their own success story,” said Daphne Gripal Abello, Manager, PLDT Home Marketing PR and Brand Advocacy.

During this year’s Gemini Academy with PLDT Home’s MMPH, participants discovered how other innovative Google products can simplify their day-to-day business tasks, such as NotebookLM, which serves as their personal assistant, helping organize notes, understand complex documents, and brainstorm ideas. Music generator Lyria and AI image editor Nano Banana can open up new worlds of creativity, helping users explore music and media in ways once possible only with expensive equipment. While AI marketing tool Pomelli is designed to help streamline tasks and improve how they interact with digital information.

Through digital mastery, women are moving from learning the basics to dominating the digital space. They are now finding ways to automate information so they can focus on what they are passionate about

    Celebrating the "Diskarteng AI"

The mission doesn't stop at training. Empowerment also means recognition. During the program, it was announced that next year’s Gawad Madiskarte, the annual awards ceremony of PLDT Home’s MMPH that honors the grit and ingenuity of Filipina entrepreneurs, will include the Diskarteng Digital Award.

This category will honor women who have successfully integrated AI into their businesses, demonstrating that "diskarte" today is about more than just hard work—it's about being innovative and creative with the best available technology.

"The award will recognize the mompreneur who can best leverage AI to scale her business. We want to show that a modern Filipina entrepreneur is not just a participant, but a leader in the global digital landscape. This is our way of celebrating your growth and AI mindset," said Prep Palacios, Google Philippines Country Manager.

    Why This Matters Now

If we don’t prioritize AI literacy for women today, we risk leaving them out of the most important economic conversations of tomorrow. Empowerment is about having a seat at the table, and in 2026, it’s all about maximizing digital potential.

By turning connectivity into capability, PLDT Home’s MMPH and Gemini Academy are ensuring that Filipino women aren't just spectators in the tech revolution. They are the ones leading it. It’s time to move beyond just getting online. It’s time to take charge.

Flexible Prepaid Internet with Faster Speeds

For households that need budget-friendly and flexible options without long-term contracts, PLDT Home has enhanced its Fiber Prepaid services.

PLDT Home Fiber Prepaid users can enjoy significantly faster speeds suitable for both work and entertainment at home, as new load packages are now available at 100 Mbps and 300 Mbps. To further ease financial burden, PLDT Home expands its load packages with 1-day, 7-day, 15-day, 30-day, and up to 365-day load options. Fiber Prepaid users can now load for as low as P19.17/day for a 365-day package with speeds of up to 50 Mbps.

As households adapt to evolving economic conditions, PLDT Home strengthens its commitment to delivering reliable, flexible, and future-ready connectivity to empower Filipinos’ productivity and resilience at home.

PLDT Home is sharpening its growth strategy around two levers it sees shaping the next phase of the broadband market: expanding portfolio of digital home services and accelerating prepaid fiber to widen the addressable base while maintaining capital discipline and deliver clear, everyday value to Filipino households.

The fixed broadband unit of PLDT Inc. is leaning more aggressively into digital services as households spend a larger share of time and wallet on streaming, smart-home tools, and gaming. PLDT Home reports continued uptake in bundled plans that integrate Netflix, Cignal, and HBO Max—products that strengthen customer loyalty and support higher-value subscriptions. Under its Home Life lineup, mesh WiFi and home security kits are being positioned as practical add‑ons that convert basic connectivity into smarter, safer living. Meanwhile, IGV Game Pass—providing access to over 200 PC games—is expanding monetization opportunities in gaming-heavy households.

At the same time, PLDT Home Fiber Prepaid has emerged as a strategic response to a price-sensitive market and a key driver of subscriber expansion without compromising premium service positioning. Built on PLDT Home’s fiber network standards, Fiber Prepaid offers a reliable experience for value-seeking households that prefer pay-as-you-go flexibility, while postpaid plans continue to serve higher-usage households looking for bundled services and added features. PLDT Home expects the prepaid segment to deliver meaningful growth in 2026, supported by positive unit economics and returns aligned with business thresholds.

“Our direction is clear: convert network investments into everyday value through richer digital services and accessible prepaid options,” said John Y. Palanca, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business – Home. “Prepaid fiber is essential in today’s environment. It gives more families a pathway to reliable fiber, at a price that fits their needs—while ensuring the economics remain disciplined and sustainable.”

As of end‑December 2025, the PLDT Group’s fiber network spanned ~1.25 million cable kilometers across domestic and international routes. PLDT Home posted ₱61.0 billion in 2025 service revenues (+3% YoY); Fiber revenues grew 6% to ₱59.4 billion, now 98% of the segment. Fiber net adds reached 392,000, taking total Fiber subscribers to 3.76 million.

With a refined system, a stint in Japan, and a key roster addition, the High Speed Hitters are moving with a level of intent that should put the rest of the league on notice

New year, new season, and for the PLDT High Speed Hitters, a massive new chance to prove they belong at the very top.

After their fourth-place finish last conference, the High Speed Hitters aren’t just looking to participate in the upcoming Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference. They look to reclaim their identity as champions, starting with a winning sweep against multi-titlist Creamline Cool Smashers followed by a four-set victory over the Bella Belen-bannered Capital1 Solar Spikers.

    Fueling the fire
For the High Speed Hitters, coming so close to a podium finish last year wasn't a setback; it was a wake-up call.

"Last season was very challenging," said Coach Rald Ricafort. "Even though we didn't reach our final goal, the team learned a lot. We are working hard this pre-season to improve and hopefully reach our goal again this conference."

Team captain Kath Arado echoes this sentiment, noting that the hunger to bounce back is palpable throughout the squad.

"Gustong makabawi ulit. Tingin ko, ito pa din yung mindset ng bawat isa samin especially naging maganda yung training namin sa Japan at maraming kaming bagong natutunan individually and as a team,” she shared. “Tinitignan namin na one game at a time dahil halos lahat ng team ay lumakas."

    The Japan connection

To prepare for the grind of the All-Filipino Conference, the High Speed Hitters took their training to Japan. The experience wasn't just about physical conditioning; it was a masterclass in the "Japanese way" – speed, discipline, and flawless fundamentals.

"Philippine volleyball still has a long way to go," Coach Rald observed. "We saw kids from elementary to college having the same consistency and discipline that we aim to adopt. We want to play smart and be as mentally resilient as possible."

For the players, the trip served as a reminder that winning isn't always about power – it's about patience.
"Lagi itong nagiging paalala," added Arado. "Maraming pagkakataon na din kasi na sa kagustuhan namin matapos na yung game at makabawi agad, mas nahihirapan pa kami instead na mas makuha yung panalo. Ako as a captain, dapat sakin magsimula na wag madaliin ang paglalaro. Na dapat kami yung mag-set ng tempo na familiar kami at makakapag-execute ng maayos na play.”

A new edge in the middle

Adding to the excitement is the arrival of middle blocker Seth Rodriguez. A former teammate of Arado at the University of the East, Rodriguez brings a mix of height and high-energy play that the team needs, especially with key players like Dell Palomata playing abroad.

"I think my optimism and my 'pagiging palaban' (competitiveness) yung madadala ko sa team,” Rodriguez says of her transition. "Andun pa po ako sa adjustment stage, trying to keep up sa solid na system ng team. But my teammates always help me and they make sure na makasabay po ako sa system na meron sila.”

Arado is confident that her old friend will be a pillar for PLDT. "Yung blockings nya siguro talaga yung sasandalan namin tsaka yung competitiveness nya sa court na ‘pag nabigyan sya ng pagkakataon, ibibigay nya yung 100% nya para makatulong sa team.”

Because of this and the training experience in Japan, fans shouldn't expect the same old High Speed Hitters. This version of PLDT aims to be more technical, more disciplined, and significantly faster.
"Hopefully, fans will notice a more technical approach in terms of executing skills," Ricafort says. "We aim to play consistent, smart, and resilient volleyball."

For Rodriguez, the message to the supporters is simple: "PLDT fans, thank you sa pagtanggap sakin. Please continue to support us lalo na sa mga upcoming games namin this season.”

With the PVL All-Filipino Conference revving up, the PLDT High Speed Hitters aren't just playing for points – they’re playing for redemption. And with the speed of their namesake, they’re coming for the crown.

Niño and take part in vibrant street dances, religious activities, and cultural events that define Cebuano identity.

"Sinulog is not just Cebu's celebration, it's something the world looks forward to," Palanca added. "Through reliable fiber connectivity, PLDT Home helps ensure that every prayer, performance, and celebration can be shared beyond the streets of Cebu."

Through its continued support of Sinulog 2026, PLDT Home reinforces its leadership in Cebu, not just as a connectivity provider, but as a brand that celebrates culture, community, and the moments that bring people together.

There is a high-tech "ghost" in the machine that many Filipinos don’t even know exists. Scammers have swapped traditional phishing links for "fake cell sites"—compact, portable base stations hidden inside backpacks that mimic legitimate signals. As these bad actors walk through crowded malls or neighborhoods, they hijack the aging 2G network to intercept nearby mobile traffic, flooding phones with deceptive messages about "prizes" or urgent bank updates. It is a silent, invisible invasion of privacy designed to drain e-wallets and bank accounts before the victim even realizes they’ve left a secure network.

PLDT is currently locked in a sophisticated game of digital cat-and-mouse to stop these criminals. Using a "triangulation" method, the telco giant is working with tech vendors to monitor their network centers for unauthorized signals. When a fake station is detected, the system flags the specific area, allowing PLDT to alert authorities in real-time. While the technology can pinpoint where the crime is unfolding, the portability of these devices makes them difficult to catch in the act, requiring a level of surveillance and intelligence that feels more like a spy thriller than standard IT maintenance.

The obvious question is: why not just turn off the vulnerable 2G signal? According to PLDT’s Butch Jimenez, the answer is complicated by the very infrastructure that keeps society running. Many of the country’s ATMs and emergency disaster response systems still rely on 2G to function. Shutting it down today would mean cutting off access to cash and critical safety lines. However, the clock is ticking; PLDT is aggressively helping banks and agencies migrate to more secure 4G platforms, with the hopeful goal of finally pulling the plug on 2G—and the scammers who exploit it—by the end of the year.

Scammers use portable devices to mimic official signals. Use this guide to spot the signs and protect your data.

    • Monitor Your Signal Strength: If your phone suddenly drops from 5G or 4G/LTE to a 2G or "E" (Edge) connection while you are in a crowded area like a mall, be extra cautious. Fake base stations often force phones onto these older, less secure networks.

    • Verify the Sender: Scammers can "spoof" names to make a text look like it's from your bank or a government agency. If the message asks for sensitive info, never click the link. Close the message and check your official banking app instead.

    • Look for Unusual Content: Be wary of messages claiming you’ve won a prize you didn't enter for, or "urgent" alerts saying your account is blocked. Legitimate companies will rarely ask for your full bank details or e-wallet PIN via SMS.

    • Report the Location: If you receive a suspicious "phishing" text in a specific public place, report it to your service provider. This helps companies like PLDT use triangulation to find and shut down the fake site in that area.

    • Update Your Device: Ensure your phone’s software is up to date. Modern operating systems are better at detecting and alerting you when a connection is unencrypted or suspicious.

Pro-Tip: If you suspect you are in range of a fake cell site, toggling "Airplane Mode" on and off can sometimes force your phone to reconnect to a legitimate, secure 4G or 5G tower.
