Megaworld brings Eastwood in Cebu, The Mactan Newtown Rises Soon

Do you think going Downtown is so mainstream? Then check out Mactan NewTown!

Are you familiar of Eastwood City? The very first IT Park in the Philippines? How about MCKinley Hill in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City? Maybe Newport City situated across NAIA Terminal 3 where the famous Resorts World Manila is hosted? Well, they are Megaworld Corporation creations. Megaworld Corporation emerged as The Philippines' No.1 residential condominium developer from 2000 to 2011 —over a decade—in a study conducted recently by CB Richard Ellis. According to the firm, Megaworld cornered a 16 percent share of the market, rolling out more than 40,000 residential units with a total aggregate saleable area of about 1.9 million square meters.

And now, Megaworld will bring all those features installed in those mentioned built cities to Cebu specifically in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City via The Mactan NewTown. Why did they choose Mactan and not in Downtown Cebu? Simply because Megaworld wants a space, a stress free space for people who would like to LIVE, WORK and at the same time PLAY. "Uptown is in Cebu City while the Newtown is in Mactan" commented Harold Geronimo, Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications of Megaworld Corporation. Indeed, a newtown must be built in order to meet the innovative world we had in this era, and I bet Megaworld can do more than that. With this Japanese inspired infrastructure in the island of Lapu-lapu, Mactan Newtown features a strategic location. It is minutes away from Mactan Circumferential Road, which links directly to the Mactan Airport Road, putting the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the country's second busiest international airport, only 10 minutes away. For Cebu-based BPO professionals that need to fly to nearby provinces, Metro Manila or even abroad for business, this is a big plus.

Mactan Newtown is adjacent to Shangri-La Mactan and Portofino along the Hilutungan Channel and near Magellan Bay, making the beach resort lifestyle even more accessible. Employees can look forward to working in an environment surrounded by sand, surf and sea—a fun, refreshing change from the quintessential corporate setting that is all urban sprawl and concrete jungle. Meanwhile, the nearby Marcelo Fernan Bridge links the Mactan Newtown to commercial and business hubs in the larger island of Cebu.

Here are some FACTS and INFORMATION about The Mactan Newtown:

Live. Work. Play.

Megaworld’s communities have always been regarded as some of the most well-planned, well-designed and well-developed in the country. All of Megaworld’s communities have residential (LIVE), office (WORK), and retail and leisure (PLAY) components. Providing the very essence of “The Good Life,” Megaworld’s integrated townships not only provide for the comfort and convenience that residents and companies need, but also additional perks that make spending time in the townships highly enjoyable as well.

The Mactan Newtown

Simply put, Megaworld intends to bring Eastwood into Mactan. The first buildings are:

One World Center - A 5-storey BPO-ready building with a retail component. Recently completed in May 2012, this building is ready for occupancy. Just like in Eastwood in 1999, the first food outlet will be McDonald’s, which is set to open in September 2012. Other outlets to open soon will be a coffee shop and a convenience store. A rendering of the building can be found on the title page. The specs are as follows:

- 4 floors for office, 1 for retail
- Bare shell handover with an airconditioning system
- About 1,500 sqm per floor
- N+2 power capability
- 2 side core elevators and 2 fire exits service the 4 office floors

Two World Center - Another 5-storey BPO-ready building with a retail component, similarly-configured as One World Center. Construction will start on July 2012.

8 Newtown Blvd - This development will house 4 residential towers (716 residential units), a 7,250 sqm retail component on the ground floor, and 3 floors of office space with a floor plate of 12,700 sqm each. Construction is under way since January 2012 and should be completed in 30 to 36 months’ time.

In 5 years, The Mactan Newtown will be able to help in improving the local economy by building enough space to be able to accommodate 25,000 office and BPO seats. This will be equivalent to generating around 40,000 jobs. The growth in office spaces will be corespondingly coupled by proportional growth both in the number of residential units and in retail and leisure establishments, thus making this development a self-contained, complete and self-sustaining community. Once completed, The Mactan Newtown will soon be the place to live, work and play - the Eastwood City, and certainly the place to be, in the the province of Cebu.
